Chronic health problems have kept me from holding a job or contributing to the upkeep of our yard the past few years. My husband needs to work long hours preventing him from regularly attending to yard maintenance. Instead of a budget for somebody else to care for our landscaping needs we had medical costs and the unexpected breakdown and replacement of car parts, an entire central air conditioning unit, and the clothes washer and dryer.

Our grass and flower bed is virtually choked out by dandelions and a handful of other weeds; the boxwoods the previous owners planted against the wall are out of control, practically smothering the outdoor unit for the a/c and hiding one rose bush completely; saplings have taken root against the foundation of the house; fungus is trying to destroy some plants; and fire ant (to which I am deathly allergic) mounds abound. Please help us.

As a single parent of 2 special needs children, it would be wonderful to have a yard that is accessable to both my children, my daughter is in a wheelchair but it's difficult getting her into the rocky yard with her wheelchair, and as a volunteer soccer coach it would be nice to have a level pitch for the kids to practice on as well. Soccer is a big part of our lives, my son who is Autistic has become very social due to the sport and my daughter loves to socialize with the parents of our team, this would be a great win for our family to be able to share the love of soccer and the outdoors. thank you so much for your time and consideration.
We live in the city limits of Macon. We have a good size lot but we have hardly any grass. I have five kids and they have to play in this mess of a yard. When it rains since we have no grass your yard washes up to our patio, and also into our driveway. I literally have to shovel the dirt back into the yard from our parking area. All of my neighbors have nice green lawns. The pictures you see is what my whole yard looks like! Our carpet has taken as much as it can from the mess being brought inside from our messy yard. Please help us and our kids by rescuing our lawn.

At one time I had grass and trees in my yard .
But in march of 2007 we had back to back Thunder storms .One night we heard a loud thump that shook my house .
The next morning we found a small tree had hit the house, so I knew then the big pine had to go. I hire a logger to remove all the trees around the house, my yard has never been the same again. No grass , black berrys and sweatgum trees So I need your Help to Get my Yard going in the right direction again. Thanks Steve

When we purchased our home just over 10 years ago, the beautiful lawn was a major selling point. Our family, along with the neighborhood kids, really enjoyed being out in the yard for a number of years. And working in the yard was even a pleasure. But then just a few years ago our grass started disappearing. We were told that a disease had taken over our lawn and each year more and more of the grass died. Not having the funds to correct the problem, our lawn has just disappeared for the most part. In some places even the top soil has eroded down to the red Georgia clay. We are so discouraged because we had to reroof and paint our home and now the house looks great, but the entire yard is just an eyesore. If you could help us Rescue Our Lawn, we would be forever grateful.

Ah, the memories of my childhood backyard…a blanket of green grass for playing touch football; trees dropping pods and pinecones for battles with the neighborhood kids; dewy grass blades between bare toes; a picnic table for impromptu theatrical performances. A nice backyard enhances one’s life. It gets you up off the sofa and outside to fill the birdfeeders or get the grill going. It should not be a “gravel pit” - one of my husband’s less than great ides to make our lives easier? “By the way, dear, it’s time to mow the weeds again.” A backyard should be an outdoor oasis for relaxation and entertainment. A place where the grandkids can play hide and seek in their bare feet and the dogs can squirm on their backs in the cool grass. “And do not worry, dear, I’ll do the mowing.”

I am submitting our backyard for the makeover at my wife’s request. We have tried for several years to improve the yard however there always seems to be something that takes a higher priority to the point it appears to be beyond control. Five years ago we lost a teenage son in a car accident and I have attempted to create a memory garden for him with many of the flowers and plants we received. It is not what I had hoped it would be. Then there’s the fact that after we built our home we realized that all of the water runoff from properties above us flows through our back yard. To control this I rented a backhoe and created a ditch to contain it however it has failed to keep it from bringing down the debris from above our yard not to mention that it is an eyesore. I would prefer not to mention the play area that is such a disaster. Between it washing away from the rain runoff and the deterioration of the playhouse it is by far the biggest distracter of the yard.

It is not so much that it has been left to fall apart as there just has not been enough time in each day to correct or improve things. Our daughter had a child eighteen months ago that required the creation of a baby room and fruit basket turnover for our other child to another room. Between babysitting evenings and weekends, being a Boy Scout leader for my youngest sons Boy Scout Troop and serving in several ministries at our church, I simply cannot create more time in each day to move the yard work up my to-do-list consistently enough.

I would love to win this Back Yard Makeover for my wife who endures my other commitments that I have which leaves our yard in such disarray. She deserves a beautiful yard to enjoy and share time with our granddaughter along with a fitting memorial garden to honor our son.

Please rescue my lawn! I live in Bibb County and more than two years ago I had to have land grading work done to correct a drainage problem that was damaging my home's foundation. Since then I have worked very hard to get grass growing in both my front and back yard, both by sprigging and seeding. Since I am doing all the work alone, most of the bare ground is on a slope or hill, and professional landscaping service is simply not something I can afford I haven't had much success. In fact all the grass seed I planted washed away! The sprigging worked better, but not by much since many of the sprigs (I planted hundreds that I collected from my parent's house). The pics show areas I have worked on for over two years. The lack of grass, pitiful shrubs and water erosion issues make my yard look awful. Then there is the dirt that gets tracked into the house . . . Between work, maintaining a house and trying to maintain the rest of the yard that is not right next to the house, it has been impossible for me to make any headway. It would be wonderful to have a better lawn so my grandchildren can enjoy playing in my yard when they visit and my yard won't continue to wash away. Thanks!
