Black Valedictorian Graduates from JHA

Brittney Gresham First African American to Graduate from John Hancock Academy, Sparta, GA
On May 14, 2012, Brittney Symone’ Angel Gresham will be the First African American student to graduate from John Hancock Academy, a private school located in Sparta, GA.
Brittney’s presence at the school made quite an impact as she gained the respect and admiration of her peers. To add to this already historic accomplishment, she leaves as her legacy several titles and honors including being crowned Miss John Hancock Academy 2012, serving as Senior Class 2012 President, President of the Beta Club, and she will also graduate as the schools Valedictorian with Honors.
Not only has Brittney accomplished much within her academic setting but other community organizations are honoring and recognizing her talents. She was presented as part of our local town Pine Tree Festival as the Grand Marshall – Successful Youth of Hancock. She was also chosen by the Milledgeville Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. to receive their academic scholarship for the 2012-13 school year. Brittney will be attending a reception on June 9, 2012 at the Governor’s Mansion to celebrate her achievements.
Brittney is setting an example and leaving a mark that cannot be erased for the youth of Hancock County Sparta, GA to remember. Her future plans are to attend Valdosta State College and become a Nurse Anesthetist, while serving in the Air Force Reserve.

Congratulations, Brittney! You are an inspiration and role model to all African American teenagers, especially in a society mostly dominated by White Americans. You make us proud. Much success at Valdosta and keep God first in all that you do.
