Eureka F. Collins was given a fifty-fifty chance of conceiving a child. The doctors informed her that her option was to go through Invitro Fertilization. She and her Navy Officer husband, Greg Collins, a Macon Georgia native, decided to proceed with the IVF program. Their first son died on the same day that her husband received word that he was departig for the Iraqi war. Upon his safe return (six months later), they decided to go through the IVF program again and the Collins' son was born premature at 1 pound 2.5 ounces. Doctors called the family and stated that mico preemies statistically do not survive and asked for consent to pull the plug. Through perseverence the Collins family persuaded the doctors to work hard to save their son, measuring the size of a dollar bill. Six surgeries later, this three year old miracle is healthy and full of life. Eureka F. Collins takes you through the entire ordeal in her debut book, "Strong Winds Change Lives."
