Harpists Marguerite Lynn Williams and Macon’s own Mary Elizabeth “Betsy” Fitzgerald are set to perform an exciting harp duo concert on September 26, opening Vineville United Methodist Church’s 2010-11 Music and the Arts Concert Series. The concert will feature rarely heard repertoire for two harps as well as familiar classical and traditional American favorites. Highlights include a beautiful arrangement of Ravel’s Ma Mere l’Oye (Mother Goose Suite), Scott Joplin’s Maple Leaf Rag and the virtuosic Mchedelov’s Variations on a Theme of Paganini.
The harp sisters are accomplished musicians, having both performed in solo, concerto, chamber music and orchestra concerts throughout the United States, Asia and Europe. Both sisters have harp performance degrees from the prestigious Eastman School of Music, where they studied with Kathleen Bride. Betsy is currently the Principal Harpist of Sinfonia Gulf Coast in Destin, FL and Encore! Cast Choir and Orchestra at Walt Disney World. Lynn is currently Principal Harp of the Colorado Music Festival in Boulder, CO and is a founding member of the International Chamber Artists, Project Copernicus and Fifth House ensembles. Both have won numerous awards and competitions including the American Harp Society National Competition, the Ann Adams Award, the National Federation of Music Clubs Competition, and the Syracuse Symphony Concerto Competition.
