ATLANTA (AP) - The parents of a toddler hospitalized after being struck by a falling tree branch say he's making progress in his recovery -- and doctors now expect him to survive.
Stacy Halstead tells CBS Atlanta that doctors this week told her that 2-year-old Tripp Halstead is "on this side of survival."
Authorities say the boy was on the playground of his day care center in Winder when the tree limb crashed onto a fence and then struck him. Whiting says the limb was 12 to 14 feet long and likely weighed several hundred pounds.
Tripp remains in a medically-induced comma at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston.
Bill Halstead said he's been on "Cloud 9" since doctors on Tuesday told the parents they expect the boy to survive.
