Ogeechee River expected to begin receding soon

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - Forecasters say the Ogeechee River remained above flood level in coastal Georgia, but was expected to begin receding.
The Savannah Morning News reports that the water level was at 13.64 feet early Sunday afternoon. Flood stage is 9 feet.
Kelly Harley, spokeswoman for the Chatham Emergency Management Agency, said the river was expected to peak at 13.8 feet before and water would start dropping after 1 p.m. Monday.
Emily Timte, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Charleston, S.C., said moderate flooding was occurring in the Eden area of Effingham County.
The National Weather Service said flood warnings continued Monday morning for several other rivers, including the Ocmulgee in Dodge, Telfair and Wilcox counties; and the Oconee River near Mount Vernon.
