Officials in Houston County are battling a brush fire Monday afternoon.
The Unadilla Fire Department tells WGXA that Dooly State Prison firefighters are headed to the brush fire off Old Perry Road in a pecan grove. The fire is near Veteran's High School.
Because of the high wind gusts, the fire has had plenty of fuel to create a thick shroud of smoke around the area.
Perry Road has been closed, impacting school buses and pick-ups at the nearby high school. They dismissed a few minutes early.
No injuries have been reported and no structures are reportedly threatened.
Much of the blaze appears down, but the windy conditions could fuel more hot spots so they're keeping a close eye on things.
