Tornado Stricken County Receives 250K Grant

Monroe County saw major damage after the super outbreak of tornadoes in 2011 made its way through the Johnstonville community among others.

The Monroe County Emergency Management Agency announces that a grant of $250,000 has been awarded to help purchase large, programmable message boards for traffic control and awareness and a truck to pull them with.

The county has also been awarded additional funding to purchase an additional 2 outdoor warning sirens for the county.

The total funding for these two projects is over $300,000.

Director of Monroe Co. EMA, Matt Perry, says the grant also includes money for laptops, trailers to haul the equipment, a large pickup truck to pull the trailer and is available to several central Georgia counties.
