After surveying damage in Crisp and Sumter Counties, the National Weather Service has confirmed that a weak tornado touched down during the course of Saturday's severe weather outbreak.
Classified as an EF-0 tornado, winds are estimated to have reached 80 mph. The tornado touched down near the Sumter and Crisp county line over Lake Blackshear. The twister traveled 3/4 of a mile onto the Crisp county side of the lake. The width of the damage path was 200 yards.
Two homes received damage from downed trees. A few docks also received minor damage.
Damage was also reported in the 1200 block area of Brock Road in southeast Crisp county. This damage is being attributed to straight-line winds of 75 mph and not a tornado. A mobile home in this area was heavily damaged along with a few downed trees.
In Sumter county, damaging winds are also being blamed for the porch of a home being destroyed near Americus. Several trees were also downed in the area.
