A 19-year-old kayaker has the Monroe and Jones County fire departments to thank for pulling him out of the rain-swollen Ocmulgee River alive.

The incident happened Friday in Monroe County near the Popes Ferry boat landing and the Tumbling Shoals neighborhood of Jones County.

Authorities say the 19-year-old was stranded in the Ocmulgee River when his kayak overturned.

It's the second local river rescue this week.

WGXA was the only local news agency on the scene when Deacon Davis and his son-in-law James Hallman got into some swiftwater trouble earlier this week in Macon's Rocky Creek. Both men were rescued by Macon-Bibb firefighters.

Following Friday’s rescue from the Ocmulgee, the teenager was taken home to his parents and reportedly had no injuries, other than being cold.
