ATLANTA (AP) - More than 200,000 customers in north and middle Georgia are reported without power as a result of storms that moved
through the state during the night.
Georgia Power spokesman Jeff Wilson said Tuesday morning that 215,000 of the company's electric power customers were without
power earlier, and 172,000 were still without electricity at 7 a.m. He says high winds and downed trees are hampering repair crews, and
some new power losses are being reported.
Georgia Electric Membership Corporation reports there were nearly 70,000 customers without power as of 6 a.m.
Wilson says 65,000 Georgia Power customers without power are in metro Atlanta, and the Georgia EMC gave its metro Atlanta figure as
28,000.
Wilson says the company can't say when all power will be restored because of continuing gusty winds.
