Severe Weather Strikes Central Georgia

Much needed rain fell across central Georgia Wednesday night. Unfortunately, severe weather accompanied the rain and left behind some damage in parts of the region.

Much needed rain fell across central Georgia Wednesday night. Unfortunately, severe weather accompanied the rain and left behind some damage in parts of the region.

In Washington county, numerous trees and power lines were reported down in Sandersville and the surrounding area. At one point, according to officials with the county, power was out county-wide. The National Weather Service also reported that a tree had fallen on a car in Sandersville as the storms blew through.

In Houston county, quarter sized hail was reported with a diameter of 1 inch. The same was also reported in Telfair county in the Workmore area.

Also in Houston county, several trees are reported down in both Kathleen and Perry.

In Crawford county, several trees are reported down county wide according to the Crawford county 911 center.

In Peach county, penny sized hail was reported with a diameter of 0.75 inch.

In Pulaski county, quarter sized hail was reported in Hawkinsville with a diameter of 1 inch.

In Jasper county, trees and power lines were reported down in the North Alcovy area.

In Montgomery county, at least one tree was reported down in the Higgston area.

In Treutlen county, golf ball sized hail was reported with a diameter of 1.75 inches.

Our team of meteorologists also received spotter reports of quarter sized hail in Rentz in Laurens county along Highway 117 as the storms rolled through that area.

In Johnson county, there are a few trees down in the Scott area. A nursing home was also struck by lightning.

According to Jeff, there is a threat of storms Thursday, but they are likely to be more south of Macon by Thursday afternoon.
