Severe weather tore threw central Georgia Tuesday, downing trees, power lines and leaving behind many stories about the torrential rainfall and vivid lightning.
Following the first warning issued just after noon Tuesday, thunderstorms kept our team of meteorologists busy through the early evening hours before the threat diminished shortly before 9 p.m.
According to Chief Meteorologist Jeff Cox, large hail was reported in Dodge, Houston, Laurens, Montgomery and Twiggs counties, including a few reports of golf-ball sized hail. Trees were also reported down in parts of Bibb, Dodge, Taylor and Twiggs counties.
Also a concern was the very heavy rainfall, which produced some flash flooding in Bibb county. Our team of meteorologists received reports of roadways under water along I-16 and on Gray Highway near Spring Street.
At the height of the storms, Georgia Power and Flint Energies reported a combined total of nearly 1,000 central Georgians without power. As of Tuesday evening, most outages had been restored.
Fortunately, nicer and calmer days are ahead. The StormTrack Weather 7 Day Forecast shows a few showers possible Wednesday before drier and hotter weather rolls in for late week and the weekend.
