Severe Storms, Possible Tornado Leave Behind Damage

NewsCentral Staff

StormTrack Central's team of meteorologists remain fairly certain that at least one tornado touched down in central Georgia Saturday afternoon.

Severe thunderstorms sparked torrential rainfall, damaging winds, large hail and vivid lightning Saturday afternoon and evening. As the storms moved through, numerous severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings were issued.

The first tornado warning issued was for Washington county as broad rotation was indicated on NewsCentral's TITAN Radar.

The second wave of tornado warnings were issued for Macon, Dooly and Pulaski counties where our team of meteorologists felt strongly that a tornado was on the ground. The severe storm that tracked from Montezuma through Unadilla and east to Hawkinsville showed intense rotation on TITAN Radar. At least three homes are reported to have major damage in the Montezuma area. The Red Cross is helping those impacted by the storms. The National Weather Service is scheduled to send a team of meteorologists to the area to survey damage on Sunday. According to Chief Meteorologist Jeff Cox, it's likely that a tornado touched down in this area. TITAN Radar indicated winds up to 111 mph at one point during the storm.

Hundreds of power outages were also reported across central Georgia by both Georgia Power and Flint Energies.

The following are damage reports from around central Georgia:
