Roads have reopened in Indiana, as a snowstorm that stranded more than 100 cars moves off to the northeast.

Roads have reopened in Indiana, as a snowstorm that stranded more than 100 cars moves off to the northeast.

At least 16 deaths have been attributed to the storm, which dumped nearly 2 feet of snow in parts of Minnesota and Wisconsin before moving into Michigan and Indiana.

Now the snow and bone-chilling cold are spreading across the Great Lakes and into Canada. Snow is falling, or expected to fall, in parts of Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York.

Cleveland could see 9 inches of new snow today. The traditional snow belt east of the city already has up to 2 feet of snow on the ground. Classes have been canceled and exams delayed at Cleveland State University and Kent State.

Cold temperatures are stretching into the South. Hard freeze warnings were posted overnight in much of Florida and several other states.

Helicopters may be pressed into service to save Florida's sensitive vegetable crops, if the winds die down. Some growers hope to use helicopters to hover low over their green bean and sweet corn fields and push down warmer air. But it was too windy for helicopters this morning.
