LAS VEGAS (AP) - Traffic is flowing normally again on the main highway connecting Central and Southern California.
Hundreds of motorists returning from the New Year's holiday found themselves stuck after Interstate 5 was closed for a second day over the 4,160-foot-high Tejon Pass, about 70 miles north of Los Angeles.
The California Highway Patrol was forced to close a 30-mile stretch of the freeway Sunday afternoon because of blizzard conditions. The road remained closed into Monday because of snow and ice patches.
State police had to escort vehicles over the pass later in the day in groups of about 500. Improved weather conditions finally allowed traffic to flow again.
