Authorities say Lake Lanier's water level has dropped below 1,064, setting into motion a new management schedule by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
GAINESVILLE, Ga. (AP) - Authorities say Lake Lanier's water level has dropped below 1,064, setting into motion a new management schedule by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
The Times of Gainesville reports (http://bit.ly/pLsIY4 ) that the lake level is expected to continue to drop for at least another month as the corps releases the reservoir's stored water to maintain required flows downstream in the Chattahoochee and the Apalachicola rivers.
Lisa Coghlan, deputy public affairs officer for the corps, says other reservoirs in the Apalachicola Chattahoochee and Flint river basin will also see a decline in lake levels.
Authorities are warning people who use the lake to be cautious as the water level sinks below swim lines and navigational markers.
