One Southern California teenager says there wasn't much time to react, when water came rushing into his house early today.

Fifteen-year-old Axl Dominguez had been awakened by a bumping sound -- and looked out the window to see plastic trashcans floating down the street in Laguna Beach.

He says the water then started coming into the house through the walls -- and then the wall collapsed. He and his family escaped through a window.

The region got a final lashing from a storm that dumped rain on Southern California for nearly a week. It buried houses and cars in mud, and washed hillsides onto highways.

Inflatable boats and canoes were used to rescue dozens of motorists and homeowners.

The storm weakened as it moved eastward, but floods still washed away at least six vacant homes in Arizona and inundated parts of Nevada and Utah.

Forecasters say the low-pressure system could be in New Mexico by tomorrow and reach the Gulf Coast by Saturday with some rain.
