Excessive heat and severe thunderstorms created a day of extreme weather for central Georgia.
For the third straight day, high temperatures soared into the triple digits. It's the first time since 2 days of 106 degrees on July 20-21, 1986 that Macon has been this hot, thus making the last three days a truly historic weather pattern.
With higher humidity values and an ever evolving weather pattern, severe thunderstorms were the only thing that was able to cool the region down.
What started as isolated storms in northeast Georgia grew into widespread storms, full of intense lightning. While many viewers reported hail, most reports were quarter-sized or smaller. The storms were also successful in lower temperatures by over 30 degrees in some areas.
Monroe county seemed to get hit the hardest. According to the Monroe County EMA office, numerous trees were down countywide, including one tree that fell onto a vehicle. No injuries have been reported.
According to our team of meteorologists, extreme heat and scattered thunderstorms are both possible Monday. They also note that while temperatures will fall into the 90s by Tuesday, higher humidity values will make it feel like triple digit values. As a result, all of central Georgia should prepare for continued extreme heat and humidity.
