Crews working to restore power across Georgia

NewsCentral Staff

ATLANTA (AP) - More than 50,000 Georgia Power customers are still without electricity as the result of powerful storms that ripped through Georgia.

Georgia Power spokesman Jim Barber said late Tuesday that there were still 51,300 outages statewide and 21,000 of those were in metro Atlanta. Barber says crews have restored service to tens of thousands of customers since the storms began late Monday night.

The Georgia Electric Membership Corporation has said it may take until Wednesday to fix some outages.

Both companies said the storm brought down a large number of utility poles.
