Climate researchers: Russian heat wave was natural

NewsCentral Staff

WASHINGTON (AP) - U.S. climate researchers say that while last summer's deadly heat wave in Russia was extraordinary, global warming isn't directly to blame.

They say in a new study the heat wave resulted from a blocking pattern in the air that forces storms to go around and allows weather to stagnate in an area. Similar patterns have been blamed for earlier heat waves in Russia.

The climate researchers do say that global warming is going on and may result in more future heat waves.
