Central Georgia Remembers Alberto's Flooding Rains from 1994

NewsCentral Staff

Tuesday marked the seventeen year anniversary of Tropical Storm Alberto. Central Georgians were forced to wade through muddy waters thanks to the great flood of 1994.

The rain began to fall across central Georgia on July 4th, 1994 and by July 5th some areas of Macon had received over a foot of rain!

Americus had the highest rainfall total - nearly 25 inches!

Water from the Ocmulgee River overran the old water treatment plant, leaving the city without drinking water for 19 days.

Parts of Riverside Drive, I-16 and I-75 were completely under water.
