Temperatures this past weekend were great! Mid 70s under beautiful blue sky. So, are the mid 70s in November crazy or common?
High temperatures November 13-15, 2009 were in the mid 70s at the Macon Airport. Talk on the street was about how warm it was. So, are the mid 70s in November crazy or common?
I thumbed through the record books for the Macon airport and found that they aren't as crazy as you may think.
So, how often do the mid 70s make an appearance in Macon in November?
Macon records highs 75° or warmer in November 29% of the time; 77° or warmer in November 21% of the time; and 80° or warmer 9% of the time.
While temperatures in the mid and upper 70s aren't happening the entire month, it's not as uncommon as you think.
So, is November 2009 shaping up to be an above average month? Thus far, the average high for November 1-15, 2009 is 71.7°. The 50 year average for the same time frame is 70.7. Based on those calculations, November 2009 got off to about a 1° above average start, but there's still another half-month to go.
Based on this research, those of us saying "how warm it is" are likely the same who were saying it last year when temperatures were exactly the same in November!
