2009 will be remembered for what seems to be a non-stop deluge. Rainfall is over a foot above average!
Rainfall totals at the Macon airport make 2009 the wettest year, so far, since 1994. Of course, we all remember 1994. That's when Tropical Storm Alberto dumped enormous rainfall amounts on middle and south Georgia, leading to devastating flooding in Macon and surrounding areas.
Using a dataset of January 1st through November 11th, the following data represents just how wet it's been:
2009 Rainfall Total: 51.42"
Most rain since 1994 (rainfall total for Jan 1 to Nov 11 was 55.57")
Average rainfall for Jan. 1st to Nov. 11th: 38.90"
2009 Rainfall Surplus: 12.52"
Percent of Georgia currently reporting drought conditions: 2.5%
Percent of Georgia reporting drought conditions 1 year ago: 74.4%
