HIALEAH, Fla. (AP) — Police are revealing more about a shooting rampage at a suburban Miami apartment complex that left seven people dead. Police say it began when Pedro Vargas set his apartment on fire, then killed a couple who arrived to investigate. Police say Vargas then fired into the street from the balcony of his burning apartment, killing a third person. Three others were killed before a SWAT team killed Vargas and freed two hostages.
PIERMONT, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities haven't identified a female body pulled from the Hudson River today, but they say it fits the description of a woman who disappeared last night after a boating accident north of New York City. Lindsey Stewart was scheduled to be married next month. Her fiancé is one of four people injured in the accident. Authorities are still searching for the sixth person on the boat who was slated to be best man at the wedding.
TRIPOLI, Libya (AP) — More than 1,000 detainees have escaped from a prison near the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi. A security official says gunmen outside of the prison fired into the air as inmates inside began setting fires, suggesting the jailbreak was planned. It happened on the same day protesters stormed political party offices in Libya's main cities to protest the killing of an activist critical of the Muslim Brotherhood.
CAIRO (AP) — Egypt has seen its worst violence since the military deposed President Mohammed Morsi on July 3. The Healty Ministry says at least 65 protesters have been killed as security forces clashed with Morsi supporters early today in Cairo.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Former President Bill Clinton and his wife, former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, say America "has lost a champion for civil rights and a trailblazer for women." Former Congresswoman Lindy Boggs died today at her suburban Washington home. The Louisiana Democrat spent nearly 18 years in Congress after succeeding her late husband, Hale Boggs, in the House. She later served as ambassador to the Vatican during the Clinton administration. Lindy Boggs was 97.
