PERRY, Ga. (AP) — A middle Georgia woman has been sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole in her husband's July 2011 shooting death.
Houston County Superior Court Judge Edward Lukemire sentenced 32-year-old Ebony Smith Thursday in the death of Brian Smith.
Investigators have said the man was shot with his own weapon in the couple's Warner Robins home after he served his wife with divorce papers.
The Telegraph of Macon (http://bit.ly/178TJ6Q ) reported that Smith is expected to serve at least 30 years before becoming eligible for parole.
Public Defender Nick White told the judge Smith asked him not to make any statements on her behalf because she felt unworthy and remorseful about her husband's death.
He says Smith has taken responsibility for the shooting since the day of the shooting.
