The academic year is officially underway at Mercer University on Monday. The largest freshman class in the school's history gathered this afternoon for the yearly fall convocation in Willingham Auditorium.
The record number of students couldn't come at a better time for Mercer with all the exciting events coming up like the new Cruz Plaza in the center of campus and, of course, the first football game since 1941.
President William Underwood says the convocation is one of his favorite events of the year, where incoming freshman learn what it means to be a Mercer Bear.
Bear Beginnings, or orientation, kicks off this Saturday with check in and the official class photo.
Then a House Party Saturday night at Willingham Hall where students will meet their advisers and peers.
