Single-game ticket sales for Mercer University's football home opener on Aug. 31 sold out within 27 minutes of the tickets being made available.
Football returns to Mercer for the first time in 72 years when the Bears line up against Reinhardt University.
Mercer previously sold out 5,000 season tickets to the 2013 season in the Pioneer Football League. To accommodate the maximum number of patrols, Mercer Athletic Director Jim Cole announced the school would look at other options for seating.
Mercer University Stadium will seat roughly 10,000 fans when it’s completed prior to the opening contest.
Single game ticketing for Mercer’s seven other home contests will be released periodically throughout the season. The university said it will announce the sales on its website mercerbears.com.
After the Saturday evening home opener, the Bears will have a bye week before playing three games in as many Saturdays at home, hosting Warner Sept. 14 at 6 p.m. and Berry College Sept. 21 at 6 p.m. The Bears will cap their four-game homestand with their inaugural PFL contest, hosting Drake University for a 1 p.m. kickoff Sept 28.
After this season, Mercer will switch affiliations to the Southern Conference.
