SAN DIEGO (AP) — He's one of their own, but local and national Democratic officials are calling on San Diego Mayor Bob Filner to step down because of multiple allegations of sexual harassment. Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schulz says Filner's alleged behavior is "reprehensible and indefensible." Filner, a Democrat, says he will go through two weeks of what he calls "intensive therapy."
CLEVELAND (AP) — The three women held captive in a Cleveland home for a decade say they are relieved that Ariel Castro has pleaded guilty to charges that will keep him in prison for life. The law firm representing the woman issued a statement saying the three are looking forward to the legal end of the case. Castro pleaded guilty Friday to 937 counts. Prosecutors are recommending that he be sentenced to life without parole plus 1,000 years when he's back before a judge next Thursday.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Workers using pressurized hoses and a chemical paint remover have cleaned green paint splattered in the Lincoln Memorial. It was vandalized early Friday. The marble Lincoln statute had green paint on its shin, coattail, chair and base, as well as paint on the floor of the memorial building. No suspects have been identified.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Food and Drug Administration is warning consumers to avoid a vitamin B dietary supplement from Healthy Life Chemistry by Purity First because it contains two potentially dangerous anabolic steroids. The agency says the company's B-50 supplements tested positive for methasterone and dimethazine, two steroids sometimes used illegally by bodybuilders. Neither ingredient is listed on the product's labeling. There have been 29 reports of side effects, some of which have resulted in hospitalization.
NEW YORK (AP) — An Illinois man who served jail time for stalking R&B singer Ashanti has been indicted in New York for again stalking and harassing the Grammy Award-winner. Prosecutors say Devar Hurd was indicted Friday in Manhattan. Prosecutors say he violated an order of protection when he sent more than 100 tweets to the singer's Twitter account between Sept. 2012 and last weekend. Some of them were sexually explicit. His bail was set at $750,000.
