ATLANTA (AP) — Atlanta police are looking for members of the public to participate in their Citizens Police Academy. The police department says the academy gives it a chance to educate the public about the department's operations and also gives police a chance to get feedback from citizens.
CALHOUN, Ga. (AP) — Hundreds gathered in northwest Georgia this weekend to remember Bert Lance, a Georgia banker who served as President Jimmy Carter's first budget director. Carter attended Lance's funeral Saturday. He said Lance was one of the most competent and dedicated public servants he has ever known.

ATLANTA (AP) — Atlanta police say an officer has been hospitalized with minor injuries after being hit by a suspected drunken driver. Department spokeswoman Officer Kim Jones says a southeast Atlanta officer was hit on an Atlanta interstate early yesterday morning and was taken to Grady Hospital for a precautionary examination.
