SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — Heavy rain has led to flooding in Savannah, but officials were hoping it would soon clear. County EMA specialist Dustin Hetzel said rain flooded nearly 15 intersections in Chatham County yesterday evening. Flood warnings from the National Weather Service were in effect in Effingham, Chatham, Screven and Bryan counties.
ATLANTA (AP) — A former executive for a hospital operator says that company and another company paid kickbacks to clinics that referred pregnant women living in the country illegally to their hospitals. A lawsuit, which was unsealed yesterday, names Health Management Associates and Tenet Healthcare. The lawsuit says the companies filed fraudulent Medicaid claims and gave kickbacks to the clinics.
EAST POINT, Ga. (AP) — Prosecutors say a woman accused in the death of East Point police officer Crystal Parker was angry that she had ended their relationship. WSB-TV reported that Danielle Parker appeared in court yesterday for a probable cause hearing and was charged with malice murder in the death of her ex-girlfriend and former housemate Crystal Parker.
ATLANTA (AP) — Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed says a city-led initiative has helped 320 chronically homeless individuals and their family members move into permanent housing. The effort is part of a national 100,000 Homes Campaign 100-Day Challenge.
