ATLANTA (AP) — Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal has suspended indicted DeKalb County CEO Burrell Ellis. Deal says DeKalb County Commissioner Lee May will serve as interim County CEO. The announcement yesterday came a day after a three-person panel voted unanimously to recommend suspension for Ellis.
JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. (AP) — Jekyll Island Authority Board officials say they may ask for legislation to set a firm acreage for development. Board officials say they want to end a dispute over a decades old law that restricts development of hotels, golf courses and other amenities to just 35 percent of the barrier island's land area above the mean high tide.
ATLANTA (AP) — Georgia Juvenile Justice officials say seven juvenile corrections officers have either resigned or were fired after a safety and security investigation. Commissioner Avery Niles said all seven worked at the DeKalb Regional Youth Detention Center and they made up the entire overnight security staff for the facility.
WALHALLA, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina wildlife officials say a 64-year-old Madison, Ga., man drowned in the Chattooga River even though he was wearing a life jacket. Authorities said Ralph Head couldn't stay above the water after his legs became entangled in rock and other debris in the river when his canoe capsized Monday.
