NEW YORK (AP) — Federal investigators are closer to finding out what caused the landing gear on Southwest Airlines jet to collapse during a hard landing at New York's LaGuardia Airport. A preliminary finding by the National Transportation Safety Board is that the nose gear hit the ground before the main landing gear. That caused it to collapse rearward and upward into the fuselage. Sixteen aboard were injured.
SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA, Spain (AP) — Experts say it appears the operator of a passenger train or its speed regulation system, or both, are to blame for a deadly derailment in Spain that killed at least 80 people. Video shows the train barreling full speed into a curve and then careening into a barrier wall. That caused the sleek train to derail. It was en route to Santiago de Compostela, a destination of Catholic pilgrimage.

They allegedly hacked into computer networks of more than a dozen major American and international corporations. Resulting losses are said to total in the hundreds of millions of dollars.
DAMASCUS, Syria (AP) — U.N. chief Ban Ki-moon says more than 100,000 people have been killed in Syria's civil war, which started 30 months ago as an uprising against President Bashar Assad. Assad's government says the United States is not a suitable peace broker because it has sided with rebels.
URBANA, Ill. (AP) — Officials say almost 80 teenagers are expected to be sent home from an eastern Illinois hospital after being accidentally sprayed by a crop-dusting plane. The plane was spraying fungicide on land adjacent to the field where they working. The accident happened near Urbana.
