BRUNSWICK, Ga. (AP) — A defense attorney for a teen accused in the shooting death of a coastal Georgia baby is arguing that police didn't properly search the area near the crime scene.
The Brunswick News reported Wednesday (http://bit.ly/1cw6ONw ) that a public defender representing De'Marquise (day-mahr-KEESE) Elkins filed a motion this week asking prosecutors to inspect storm and sewage drains near the area where 13-month-old Antonio West was shot.
Defense attorney Kevin Gough argues that evidence, such as shell casings, could have been carried downstream.
Authorities have said the boy was sitting in his stroller when 18-year-old Elkins and 15-year-old Dominique Lang tried robbing the boy's mother, Sherry West. Investigators have said the boy was shot after a brief struggle.
Elkins is charged with murder, cruelty to children, aggravated assault and attempted armed robbery.
