CAIRO (AP) — An Egyptian doctor says it's likely there are even more dead than the 38 counted so far at a rally where Islamist supporters of ousted president Mohammed Morsi clashed with security forces. The doctor says many casualties were transported to hospitals outside the sit-in and that hundreds were wounded. Millions also took to the streets opposing the Islamists.
HIALEAH, Fla. (AP) — Police say a gunman holding hostages inside a South Florida apartment complex killed six people before being shot to death by a SWAT team that stormed the building early today. Police in Hialeah, just north of Miami, say two hostages were rescued when officers fatally shot the gunman during an exchange of gunfire.
CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (AP) — A West Virginia man is facing four counts of first-degree murder after police say he fatally shot four people, including two bystanders. Police in Clarksburg say the shooting resulted from a drug deal gone bad. The bystanders, an elderly man and his son, had been delivering newspapers.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Former Louisiana Congresswoman Lindy Boggs has died. Her daughter, Cokie Roberts of ABC News, says her mother died of natural causes today at her home in Maryland. She was 97. Boggs' nearly 18 years in Congress started with a special election in 1973 to finish the term of her husband, Hale, whose plane disappeared over Alaska six months earlier. Between them, they served a half-century in the House.
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama travels to the Korean War Veterans Memorial on the National Mall today to mark the 60th anniversary of the end of the Korean War. He'll deliver remarks at the commemoration. The 1950-53 war ended with an armistice, not a peace treaty. North Korea marked the occasion today with a military parade.
