More than 1,200 people and 19 aircraft are battling the blaze, which started Aug. 7 and is 9 percent contained.
BRUSSELS (AP) — Diplomats from the European Union are gathering Monday morning in Brussels to discuss possible actions in response to the crisis in Egypt. The EU is warning Egyptian authorities that the people's calls for democracy and fundamental rights "cannot be disregarded, much less be washed away in blood." Officials say nearly 900 people have died there since Wednesday.

Democrats are generally supportive of President Barack Obama's approach. Some Republicans, including Sen. John McCain, are calling for the elimination of military aid. While other Republicans, such as Congressman Peter King, are more hesitant.
LONDON (AP) — British authorities have released without charge the partner of a journalist who received leaks from former National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden. David Miranda, the long-time partner of Guardian reporter Glenn Greenwald, was detained at London's Heathrow Airport for just under nine hours Sunday under the Terrorism Act. The action triggered claims that authorities are trying to interfere with reporting on the issue.
MANILA, Philippines (AP) — Torrential rains are bringing the Philippine capital to a standstill. A night of heavy downpours from a monsoon enhanced by Tropical Storm Trami has made streets in Manila impassable and forced thousands of people into emergency shelters. Schools, offices, the stock exchange, courts and embassies are closed. Officials report at least two dead and several missing.
