(AP) — Firefighters battling a 22-square-mile wildfire in Southern California's San Jacinto Mountains say at least 26 homes have been destroyed, but the number could grow as authorities continue assessing the damage. People in five towns have been told to evacuate. Some 1,800 people already have fled the area.
SANAA, Yemen (AP) — The U.S. is escalating its drone strikes in Yemen, where Yemeni military officials say 34 suspected al-Qaida militants have been killed in less than two weeks. Three strikes on Thursday alone killed a dozen people. The U.S. and Britain evacuated diplomatic staff from Yemen's capital this week and closed 19 diplomatic posts in the Middle East and Africa after learning of a threatened al-Qaida attack.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The State Department is telling Americans not to travel to Pakistan, and it's ordering nonessential government personnel to leave the U.S. Consulate in Lahore because of a specific threat. U.S. officials say several foreign and indigenous terror groups are a potential danger to U.S. citizens throughout Pakistan.
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Police in Oakland have stepped up their search for a federal investigator who went missing Sunday. A parolee is being considered a person of interest in the disappearance of 50-year-old Sandra Coke. Police say parolee Randy Alana was with Coke on Sunday. A family friend says the two dated more than 20 years ago.
DETROIT (AP) — What, no girls? A couple in western Michigan has just welcomed their 12th child into the world, and it's a boy, just like the other 11. Jay and Kateri Schwandt of Rockford say Tucker was born weighing 7 pounds, 7 ounces. Kateri's sister has 10 children, and yes, they're all boys.
