AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) — A 13-year-old accused of molesting his 4-year-old neighbor will faces charges as an adult, authorities said.
The Augusta Chronicle reports (http://bit.ly/15THuKA ) that the Richmond County sheriff's office booked Jacob Staffey this week on charges of aggravated sexual battery. Staffey, whose mother had previously been arrested for allegedly having sex with juveniles in her home, is being held in the Regional Youth Detention Center.
The teen was arrested July 12 on aggravated child molestation charges. Lt. Calvin Crew of the sheriff's office said investigators and prosecutors later opted for aggravated sexual battery charges in the adult court.
The case stems from a June incident at the alleged victim's home. An incident report states that the girl told her mother that Staffey and another boy pulled down her pants and assaulted her.
