Robbers took an entire ATM machine from the Mid-South Federal Credit Union on Bass Road early Wednesday morning.
The Bibb Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect and locating the vehicle used in the theft.
The credit union is located at 1611 Bass Road, between Starcadia and the exit from I-75.
The sheriff's investigative report indicates deputies saw a white man with a baseball cap driving a truck with a large object in the back bed, headed east on Bass Road.
The driver of the truck began to speed up, turned left turn onto New Forsyth Road, and ran through the four-way stop. The driver of the vehicle turned off his lights as he entered an unlit section of New Forsyth Road.
The deputy lost sight of the truck as it headed northbound toward Monroe County.
The vehicle was described as a 1990’s model Chevrolet or GMC truck. The truck was possibly “metallic blue” in color and it had “step sides” or “flares” on the sides of the truck. No further description was given.
Several minutes after the truck fled the Bass Road area, an ATM alarm was called into the Sheriff’s Office from the Mid-South Federal Credit Union. Deputies arrived at the credit union and found a fork lift in the parking lot and the ATM machine missing.
During the investigation, it was discovered that the fork lift was stolen from a construction site a half-mile east of the credit union.
Anyone with information in reference to this incident is asked to contact the Bibb Sheriff’s Office at 478-746-9441 or Macon Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
