PIERMONT, N.Y. (AP) — A second body has been pulled from New York's Hudson River in the area where a speedboat slammed into a construction barge Friday night. Authorities say the body of a man believed to be Mark Lennon was discovered a mile downstream from where the body of a woman believed to be Lindsey Stewart was found yesterday. Stewart was set to be married Aug. 10 and Lennon was to be the best man. Four others were hurt in the crash, including the groom-to-be.
COLLETTSVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Authorities in western North Carolina are searching for a man swept away in a rain-swollen creek after up to a foot of rain fell yesterday. The body of a 10-year-old girl who had been swimming with him was found last evening. Officials in Catawba County are checking reports of damage to 130 homes and other buildings.
SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA, Spain (AP) — The death toll from Spain's train derailment has risen to 79 after an injured passenger died in a hospital. The hospital in Santiago de Compostela confirmed the fatality, but did not identify the victim. Spanish national broadcaster RTVE said the person was an American woman.
PARIS (AP) — Police in the French Riviera say a thief has made off with a staggering $53 million worth of diamonds and other jewels. The loot was taken from a luxury hotel in Cannes (kan) that's hosting a temporary jewelry exhibit. Two other highly publicized jewelry heists occurred in the city in May during the Cannes Film Festival.
CAMARILLO, Calif. (AP) — The average U.S. price of a gallon of gasoline has jumped eight cents over the past two weeks, according to the latest Lundberg Survey of fuel prices. It says the average price of a gallon of regular is $3.67. Of the cities surveyed in the Lower 48 states, Charleston, S.C., had the nation's lowest average price for gas at $3.34 while Chicago had the highest at $4.10.
