MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) — Police say a New Hampshire software engineer on a supervised visit shot and killed his 9-year-old son and himself at a YWCA office. A rabbis says the father sent an email to a friend before the shootings suggesting he was suicidal. The rabbi says the man had been depressed after recently returning from his brother's funeral in Israel.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Attorney General Eric Holder plans to tell the American bar Association on Monday that changes are needed in the federal criminal justice system. They include scaling back the use of harsh prison sentences for certain drug-related crimes and diversion of people convicted of low-level offenses to drug treatment and community service.
SEATTLE (AP) — The sister of an American man detained in North Korea says his hospitalization points out the urgency of bringing him home. Kenneth Bae, a 45-year-old tour operator and Christian missionary, has been held for the past nine months and was hospitalized after losing more than 50 pounds. He was sentenced to 15 years for subversive activities against the authoritarian government.
CAMARILLO, Calif. (AP) — The Lundberg Survey of gas prices says they've gone down over the past two weeks by about 8 cents. The average price of a gallon of regular is $3.60. Lundberg Survey President Trilby Lundberg says refiners are over-producing gasoline and slashing their wholesale prices to move product.
