Westside Football Prepares for Northside

Rick Devens

This season WGXA is letting fans vote for who they want to see in The Big Game. This week you chose a battle of undefeated teams, as Westside plays host to Northside.

The Westside Seminoles scored a combined 110 points in their first two games of the season and they only allowed 7 points against. That's a start that has Coach Spoon excited.

"I've been tickled to death, actually, about the start of the season. I'm very proud of how they've played with a lot of energy and emotion. Reminds me of an older Westside team," says Sheddrick "Spoon" Risper, Westside's Head Football Coach.

Westside returns a lot of players and is focused on not making the same mistakes they did last season.

"We matured out a little bit more. We went 5-5 last year and this year we're improving," says Noah Grayer, Westside's Senior Quarterback.

Grayer has been a large part of the 'Noles maturing process. The second year starter leads Westside's potent passing attack.

"I got better reading the defense. The offense is a little bit better. It was my first year starting last year so this year I caught on quick," says Grayer.

It's been a red hot start to the season for the Seminoles but on Friday night the difficulty level increases as Westside plays host to once upon a time rival Northside.

"Whenever big blue comes into town everybody, they get a show. They're so big and they're like a bunch of monsters now," says Risper.

"They're big, they're fast. Great team. They're going to put up a fight with us. We're going to put up a fight with them," says Grayer.

Northside is ranked the second best team in all of Georgia and Coach Spoon knows his team will have their hands full.

"We know that we're going to have to play a perfect game. They're number two in the state for a reason. If you want to ask me I think they should be number one," says Risper.

Westside plays Northside at the Ed Defore Sports Complex this Friday at 7:30pm. WGXA will be there live before kickoff and then you can see highlights of The Big Game on FOX Friday nights at 10:45.
