Troopers hunt for owner of ladder after crash

NewsCentral Staff

EAST POINT, Ga. (AP) - State troopers say they hope to use a bar code on a ladder to track down its owner, who could face charges in a deadly crash on a metro Atlanta freeway.

Authorities say the ladder in the road is suspected of causing multi-vehicle crash that left one person dead and two injured Tuesday afternoon on Interstate 285 in East Point, just south of Atlanta.

East Point police Lt. Cliff Chandler said authorities believe the ladder fell from a vehicle. He said one vehicle hit the ladder and became disabled, and then that vehicle was struck by the others, including a semi.

Georgia Department of Public Safety Commissioner Col. Mark McDonough tells The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that investigators hope to glean clues about who bought the ladder from the bar code.
