COVINGTON, Ga. (AP) - Authorities say over 40 elementary students and adults have been hospitalized after a crash involving two school buses in Newton County.

The Covington News reports the accident happened on Salem Road near McGiboney Place in Covington Tuesday.

Georgia State Patrol officials say one school bus rear ended another after it stopped to unload passengers. The newspaper reports the buses were carrying students from Rocky Plains Elementary School, which is near the scene of the crash. Authorities say 34 students and a bus driver were taken to Newton Medical Center, and six students and another bus driver were taken to Rockdale Medical Center.

Officials say none of the children or adults who were hospitalized appear to have been seriously injured.

Covington is about 35 miles southeast of Atlanta.
