Several families displaced after apartment fire

NewsCentral Staff

ATLANTA (AP) - About two-dozen families were displaced by a fire that roared through an Atlanta apartment complex, where authorities say firefighters lost precious time because a fire hydrant was dry.

Authorities say the blaze began around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Majestic Part Apartments off of Delowe Drive in southwest Atlanta.

Atlanta Fire Rescue spokeswoman Laura Alexander tells CBS Atlanta (http://bit.ly/U7fzkG) that the first hydrant firefighters tried to use was dry. She said that made it difficult for firefighters trying to get water to the building.

No injuries were reported in the blaze.

One resident, Parthemia Minor, says she said she had just moved into the apartments and lost everything, including Christmas toys.
