BRUNSWICK, Ga. (AP) - Police on the Georgia coast say they suspect foul play in the death of a Glynn County commissioner whose body was found in the Frederica River on St. Simons Island.
Police found Commissioner Tom Sublett in the water early Tuesday. His car was nearby and Glynn County Police Chief Matt Doering says officers found the commissioner's wallet with some items missing.
The chief won't say how Sublett died but he told reporters police are treating the case as a homicide.
The 52-year-old commissioner was elected in 2008 and planned to leave office at the end of this month after deciding not to seek re-election. Sublett, who lived on St. Simons Island, was a former chairman of the Brunswick-Golden Isles Chamber of Commerce. He sold commercial real estate in Glynn County.
