Police search for driver after deadly hit and run

NewsCentral Staff

ATLANTA (AP) - Police say they're searching for the driver of an SUV who they say drove off after striking and killing a woman as she walked to catch a bus in Atlanta.

Atlanta police Capt. Tim Peek tells CBS Atlanta that the crash happened around 6 a.m. Tuesday on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in southwest Atlanta.

Police and relatives of 53-year-old Cassandra Head hope the driver can be located. The mother of five adult children and 16 grandchildren was on her way to catch a bus to get to work at a post office.

Peek said the driver of a dark-colored sport utility vehicle struck Head as she crossed the road in the crosswalk. Police are searching for the SUV, which they believe has front-end damage.
