Morning fire displaces Effingham County family

NewsCentral Staff

GUYTON, Ga. (AP) - An early morning fire has destroyed a wood frame home in Effingham County and displaced a family of four.

A Red Cross Disaster Action Team was on the scene early Sunday morning to help the father, mother and two children, 9 and 4, who resided at the home. The family's two dogs were killed in the fire.

Red Cross volunteers told the Savannah Morning News that the father said one of the dogs woke him and his wife around 3 a.m. The father said he and his wife broke out a window and jumped out. Volunteers said the children spent the night at a relative's house and have not been told about the fire.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined by fire officials.
