Man, pregnant woman shot in Effingham County

CLYO, Ga. (AP) - Police in Effingham County say a man and pregnant woman were shot during a home invasion and have been hospitalized.

Authorities say a gunman kicked in the door of a house in Clyo early Thursday morning and shot the woman - who is eight months pregnant - and an unidentified man. It is unclear why the pair was targeted.

Police say the man was shot in his chest and the woman was wounded twice. It was unclear where the woman was shot.

The victims were taken to Memorial University Medical Center and police say the man's injuries were life threatening. Authorities say the woman was alert at the hospital and doctors believe the baby was unharmed.

Clyo is about 35 miles northwest of Savannah.
