MARTA to hold emergency drill in Atlanta

NewsCentral Staff

ATLANTA (AP) - Atlanta's transit system will be holding emergency training overnight this weekend.

Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority, or MARTA, plans to hold the drills from 11 p.m. Saturday until 5 a.m. Sunday. The exercises include a staged emergency at the Five Points station in downtown Atlanta.

The annual exercises give MARTA police officers, staff and other emergency response agencies a chance to practice responding to incidents like terrorist attacks, pandemics or natural disasters in real-life settings.

There will be a minimal impact on rail service and some streets in the area will be closed. Residents in the area can expect to hear loud noises between 1:30 a.m. and 4 a.m. Sunday.
